The release of those Films on HBO Max and Amazon Prime respectively are among other major streaming developments, as noted by The Economist.
• Warner will release 17 films on HBO Max within the mid of 2021.
• Comcast’s Universal Pictures will make films available online 17 days after hitting theatres.
• Paramount Pictures sold films to Netflix rather than releasing them in theatres.
• NBC have regained their streaming rights and began streaming The Office on its own streaming platform “Peacock†as of January 1st, 2021.
The biggest announcement was from Disney, which literally announced 10 Star Wars series, 10 Marvel series, and 30 more series and films to be released on its platform.
By 2024, Disney is expected to allocate $14-16B a year on content
This is within the ballpark of the $17B outlay Netflix made in 2020.
In fact, the sudden rise of Disney+ makes it the sole genuine competitor to The King of streaming service Netflix.
Disney is estimated to own 260million subscribers by 2024, which could put it on the right track to eventually overtake Netflix, which currently has 195million active users (not including the 8 college friends you share your account with).
